From having DSL at my previous house, HughesNet was a slight downgrade. But after seeing the competitor at my neighbors house. HughesNet was the BEST choice.

  really nice installers!

I got my installation in just 4 days, they did a good job, had to have a pole mounted dish. but apart from that really good.

  Proplus Plan

Im very happy that I decided to go with the proplus plan, it lets me do things now that i could never do with dialup. Now if I could only keep my wife off it.

  surprised
Jackie M. - Plainview, TX   (Saturday, April 18, 2009)

I purchased Hughesnet for my home in Texas, when the installer came i was surpised to learn that i needed a polemount, which was an additonal fee i wasnt ready for. However after getting the system installed i was pleasantly suprised at how much faster it was then my previous provider. Im glad i decided to go for it!

  better than dial up
R. Schneider - Peterman, AL   (Monday, April 06, 2009)

Ive definately had faster service before but I have to say that this is so much better than dial up, which is all i can get at my house. So it a draw.

  A great service

I purchased the HughesNet satellite system because we live in a rural area without cable or DSL. Compared to wired high-speed services, satellite internet is pricey and may not perform well with applications like internet telephony or very interactive on-line gaming. But if you live in the sticks and good old dial-up just doesn't cut it, then satellite internet may be your only choice. I opted for the 'Small Office' package which includes the .98 meter dish, 2 watt transmitter and HN7000S modem. The installation was prompt and professional and we were up and running without a single problem. Then came the test: Was it really delivering the speed that they advertise? For the first month I repeatedly ran various speed tests available through HughesNet and other sources. Surprisingly, the downlink consistently ran 1.2-1.5 Mbps and the uplink 250-300 Kbps. Satellite is a controlled bandwidth medium so I know these speeds will vary over time. But still, this is better-than-DSL performance! The system has proven to be solid and reliable even during heavy storms, which is impressive. It was easy to set up the HughesNet email accounts and to configure my email client. Overall, I am very pleased with this service.

  HughesNet Networking
Mike Noles - Somerset, KY   (Tuesday, May 08, 2007)

My HughesNet dish was installed on April 17, 2007. The installer was a great guy and helped me get everything going. I was lucky to have someone with a brain for a change! Being connected with HughesNet Saves me so much time. I no longer need to wait to get connected. And downloading music only takes seconds, not hours like before.

Setting up a Netgear wireless router was a nightmare, since both the HughesNet HN7000s modem and wireless router wanted to use the same IP. I later bought a 'Linksys' router which by default did not use the modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. The 'Linksys' was plug and play.

Save yourself time by getting connected to the internet via HughesNet. And save yourself a headache by getting a Linksys wireless router.

  High-speed At Last
Bill Martin - Indian River, MI   (Friday, April 27, 2007)

I have been waiting and hoping that DSL high-speed internet would come to my area but it has not and will not due to the sparce population. So, I finally decided to get satellite internet service. Though Hughes is the only provider available to me, I am very satisfied with my system, service, and pricing. The rebates help take some of the sting out of the equipment costs. The speed is actually faster than the DSL where I work. Hughes net doesn't seem to slow down like DSL does after 3:00 pm when the kids gert out of school and get on the internet. My system was installed 10 days after I ordered it and the installer was very professional. I would recommend Hughes-net to my friends.

  Love It

In the mountains to rely on dialup is a defiant no, no. We did and after 6 times of being booted before we even logged in, was enough for us. Even Verizon couldn't guarantee we wouldn’t get booted. We went with Elite Satellite and even through storms we were not booted, so my comment to others is get out of the caveman era and get with the satellite era.
